Released today figures on admission to England NHS hospitals for the year ending March 2021 compared to the previous year show sharp falls due to Covid.

Number of Finished Consultant Episodes (FCEs)

In 2020-21 there were 16.2 million FCEs recorded.

This is a decline of 22.7 per cent from 2019-20, reflecting the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Number of Finished Admission Episodes (FAEs)

In 2020-21 there were 12.8 million FAEs recorded.

This is a decline of 25.5 per cent from 2019-20, reflecting the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Adult Critical Care

There were 235,262 useable critical care records recorded in 2020-21.

This is a decline of 17.8 per cent from 2019-20, reflecting the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
